Gentlerist Modern Alchemist is one of the culty YULI team’s cultiest creations, reimagined. Like most Gentlerist products, it’s a statement: in this case, “Why bother with retinol or other retinoids when you can use this magnificent, golden-hued oil?”

The richest of Gentlerist’s serum-oils, Modern Alchemist is both a step up from Liquid courage in terms of nourishment and activity as well as a wonderful companion to it: think of Liquid Courage as your antioxidant-rich daytime hero, with Modern Alchemist as your gently line-softening, skin-plumping retinol alternative (or retinoid topper) at night.

That said, one of the things we love about Modern Alchemist is that — unlike retinol — it can be used day or night, since it not only doesn’t cause sun sensitivity, but also serves to protect skin from environmental damage. Its blend of bio-available retinol alternatives — rosehip, wild carrot, sweet potato, and bakuchiol — gently, and without creating any disruption in the skin, work towards the same goal of accelerating collagen synthesis and cell renewal while supporting skin’s repair process. No, it’s not your dermatologist’s retinoid, but if you’re quite sensitive-skinned and patient, it’s a good way to go.

Especially since you get a whole host of goodies along with it, like fatty-acid-rich borage and avocado, EFA-rich sea buckthorn, and the intriguing Tamarind Seed Bio-ferment, included for its ability to act like hyaluronic acid while improving textured and hyper-pigmented skin.
