Kroma Beauty Matcha Latte is the thing that, somewhat accidentally, turned Dara from a devoted daily coffee drinker to a devoted daily matcha drinker. As Kroma’s founder, Lisa Odenweller, told her during their first conversation, “Just try it: it’s yummy, and it’s satiating, and it’s the perfect thing to bring on a trip.” It is, indeed, and it’s the perfect thing to start your day with at home, too.

This creamy, not-too-sweet, slightly zingy matcha blend contains 70mg of caffeine per 1-Tb scoop — about the same amount you’ll find in a shot of espresso — thanks to organic, ceremonial grade matcha. Added to that is grass-fed bovine collagen (which explains why it’s satiating, and also gives it a nice creaminess in addition to some beautifying benefits that Dr. Sara Gottfried approves of) and Kroma’s “beauty mushroom” blend, which includes Chaga, Cordyceps, Maitake, Antrodia, Turkey Tail, and King Trumpet (great choices). Then there’s also turmeric for joint and immunity support, ginger extract for better digestion and a mildly spicy kick, maca (an adaptogen we love) for hormone and energy balance, and goji for an antioxidant boost.

Its beautifully balanced taste also benefits from a small amount of mild, healthy sweeteners (monk fruit and maple sugar) and Himalayan pink salt. If you’re new to matcha, it’s the easiest way we can think of to ease into this healthy habit for jitter-free energy and focus.

So, what does it taste like? It’s smooth, slightly creamy, balanced, and just sweet enough — with a gentle hint of spice from turmeric and ginger. If you find plain matcha a little too plain for you, you’ll love this; you’ll also love it if you find Mija to be too sweet.

Dara usually mixes the Beauty Matcha Latte with water and adds a generous splash of her favorite nut milk. (We generally suggest mixing your matcha with non-dairy milk, since some studies have shown that dairy and soy milk can decrease the absorption of green tea’s antioxidant-rich polyphenols. Some studies have shown little or no decrease, though, so if you insist on dairy with your matcha, it’s OK.)
